NPX Student Musicians at Open Mic Night

In January Mr. Donatelli invited select NPX students to prepare and audition to perform at the Saturday morning open mic at Janey’s in Cave Creek. On April 1st, several students and their families attended and it was a great success at working out the “butterflies”. Thank you parents for supporting this real-world educational event!
“On April 1st, several select NPX music students had the amazing opportunity of performing live at Janey’s Coffee and Bodega in Cave Creek. I usually get very nervous performing but at the coffee shop, it was so low-key and I felt so comfortable. Being able to perform live was such a great opportunity. There were so many talented people performing, I was able to hear many songs I never would have otherwise.” Kate McKnight
“I really enjoyed watching the performances at Janey’s Coffee Shop. Not only were the adult professionals amazing, but so were the NPX students. I could stay there all afternoon. Everyone there was so friendly and it was a lot of fun to watch my peers perform. The environment is perfect for beginners or experienced people because everything is so relaxed.” Ellie Taylor

Headmaster Letter

Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,

Over the past couple of weeks, I have enjoyed playing a little basketball with the high schoolers during our lunch breaks.  It's been quite fun!  I am impressed not only with the student's skills, but also with their sportsmanship and camaraderie.  It's wonderful to see our students being great-hearted during a recreational time, and these pick-up games are a good example of the significance of athletics at our Academy.

Just as in their academic pursuits, our student-athletes strive toward competitive excellence on the playing field or court.  We believe that our athletic programs are important because they foster cooperation and esprit de corps in our community.  Athletic competition also develops a young person's work ethic and sense of determination.  When a student-athlete digs deep and rises to a challenge, she discovers a personal reservoir of willpower that she can apply to every area of life. Athletics is thus important because it helps develop virtue and character--a key component of our overall mission and vision.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our Athletic Director, Mr. Joe Page, and all of his coaches for the fantastic work that they are doing to grow and develop our student-athletes.  I'd also like to thank the many faculty members who engage our students during lunchtime recreation.  Finally, I want to give due praise to our students for the way that they are truly embracing the vision of competitive excellence.  All of you make me proud to be a Gladiator!

With Devotion,
Headmaster Weinhold
