Headmaster Letter

Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,

Last week a representative from GreatHearts visited several of our Humane Letters seminars.  I was pleased to learn that he noticed the genuine love of discovery and sense of wonder that our students possess, as well as their careful thought and attention to the text.  Our young Gladiators are truly manifesting the highest and best things that GreatHearts has to offer, namely a life of friendship in the mutual pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

By teaching the Great Books of the Western tradition, and by studying a coherent and orderly liberal arts curriculum, our academy cultivates students who are more than mere calculator kids.  Our young people thrive because our devoted faculty encourages deep and genuine friendships among the students, and because they lead through love and friendship as modeled by Socrates. This transformative, soul-shaping kind of education bears fruit in more than just a utilitarian sense.  Yes, GreatHearts graduates earn admission and scholarships to highly selective colleges, and yes, they possess knowledge and skills that far surpass their peers at other schools.  But that kind of success is only the beginning of a deeper flourishing, a more profound kind of happiness that comes from wisdom and a life well-lived in relationship with friends and family.

It is such a tremendous privilege to bear witness to the growth and development of our students. Their increasing maturity and esprit de corps gives me great joy.  When I consider that these young people will someday inhabit our nation's boardrooms, courtrooms, operating rooms, and laboratories, I am filled with hope and optimism for the future.

With Devotion,
Headmaster Weinhold
