Great Hearts announces Dr. Wade Dyke as new CEO

We are excited to announce that Wade Dyke has assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of Great Hearts.

Wade was selected after an extensive national search process, and we are delighted to have him join in and lead our mission.

Dr. Dyke comes to us by way of Kaplan, where he spent nine years across several jobs of ascending executive responsibility, including as Executive Vice President of Higher and Professional Education.
While at Kaplan he was known for his ability to lead initiatives that built upon the innovation and quality of the operations and the experience of its 50,000+ students.

Robert Wagner is new Superintendent of Great Hearts Arizona

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Robert Wagner has assumed the role of Superintendent of Great Hearts Arizona. The superintendent is the leading, in-market executive for Great Hearts Arizona. As such, this key position oversees the organization’s academic and financial performance, serves as the point of contact to the Arizona Education Agency on all regulatory and compliance matters, is the primary liaison and spokesperson for Great Hearts Arizona to external constituents, and advises the charter’s Board of Directors on strategic and administrative matters.

Headmaster Letter

Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,

I asked one of our high school students how the semester was shaping up the other day.  His response was yet another indication that our Socratic method of teaching is working to shape our students' hearts and minds. "Well," he carefully reflected, "We are on Humane Letters break right now, and I think we really had a genuine dialogue during the first hour.  Just about everybody participated, but it was more than that.  We honestly figured out why a few of us disagreed, but nobody was upset.  It was like we were all working together on the same problem."

Such genuine dialogue is all-too-rare in the popular culture, but at North Phoenix Prep our students learn how to pursue Truth, Goodness, and Beauty together in conversation with one another about a Great Book.  They do so under the compassionate, joyful mentorship of their teachers--but they also learn how to engage with one another through careful listening, intellectual discipline, and imaginative questioning.  This deliberately classical mode of education prepares them for more than just college entrance.  It prepares them for a flourishing life of continued inquiry and deep friendship.

We have a number of important events coming up this week.  We will have a High School Preview Night on Tuesday for currently enrolled and prospective students and their families.  On Wednesday, I will be traveling to the Mesa Arts Center with the Juniors for a performance of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  Thursday we will have the pleasure of hosting Dr. Jason Ross, senior director for faculty relations at the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University.  Dr. Ross will be visiting to learn more about how we're cultivating the hearts and minds of our students at North Phoenix Prep.

With Devotion,

Headmaster Weinhold
