Go to the Head of the Great Hearts Class

Are you ready to go to the head of the Great Hearts class? We’d like to invite you to participate in a fun exercise to get a small sampling of the kind of things your student is learning, with a chance to win a $100 gift card, generously donated by Streets of New York.

We all know our North Phoenix Prep students receive an incredible education, one that many of us have expressed is far superior to what we received growing up. While you won’t be able to enroll in a Great Hearts academy yourself, you can still learn alongside your student to experience the Great Hearts curriculum and gain an appreciation for the skills and knowledge our students acquire.

Complete this quiz that was specially designed for our Prep families and return it to Emily Lawson, Director of Academy Giving, either in person or by sending your answers to by June 1. Each returned quiz with a score of 100% will be entered into a drawing to win the $100 gift card to Streets of New York. The winner will be announced by email during the week of June 6th.

Special thanks to Streets of New York for their support of our school and the mission of Great Hearts! And, thank you for your participation. Good luck!

History & Museums

Instructor: Mr. Matthew Bustos
Time: Monday-Thursday, 12:15-4:00 pm
Course Description: This course is designed to illustrate the significance of museums as it pertains to the practice of history. While students often limit their interactions with history to textbooks and primary documents, this represents only a portion of the material available that can aid in the understanding of the subject. By visiting a museum each week, students will be able to take the discipline of history outside the classroom and begin to make connections between the history that they study and the history that surrounds them on a daily basis. Students will study a particular historical narrative from Monday-Wednesday, and then put what they learned into practice at a museum that corresponds with the narrative for the week on that Thursday. Students will be able to sign up for one or all of the scheduled weeks, at a cost of $100 per week, not including museum admission.
NO REFUNDS ISSUED AFTER 1st day of session.
Schedule: All trips will be on Thursday of each week from 12:30 PM until roughly 4
Week 1 June 6th-9th: Renaissance (Phoenix Art Museum, $15 adults, $6 Students)
Week 2 June 13th-16th: Native American (Heard Museum, $18 adults, $7.50 Students)
Week 3 June 20th-23rd: Western Expansion (Scottsdale Museum, Free admission)
Week 4 June 27th-30th: Arizona History (Arizona Capital Museum, Free admission)
Field Trip Transportation
The transportation guidelines for this summer course and travel for all clubs, sports, and extra-curricular activities for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy are as follows and may also be found in the Family Handbook: I. All families must sign a liability waiver before the student travels II. All students must have the proper insurance and have submitted proof of that insurance to the trip director prior to leaving campus III. The student traveling must follow all the rules established by the school and trip director. Chaperones will be provided and a minimum 10-1 student-chaperone ratio will be maintained on all field trips, but parents must be able to provide transportation to and from the locations each week. Parent chaperones are more than welcome, but they must follow the guidelines established by the trip director and must have fingerprint clearance on file in the front office.

Middle School Football Camps

The first Middle School Football practice is not until Wednesday, August 10, but we have two great summer opportunities. Both are optional but highly recommended.
NPX OTA (North Phoenix Prep Organized Team Activities) will be from 6-7:30 PM Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 (4 days) at Venturoso Park, 14425 N. 32ndStreet (across the street from NPX’s future campus). NPX OTA introduces players to the form running, stretching, agilities, basic drills, games, and nutrition that prepares them throughout the summer for the football season.
NPX Training Camp is from 6-7:30 PM Monday, August 1 through Thursday, August 4 (4 days) on the North Phoenix Prep football field. Training Camp reviews things learned in the OTA while introducing players to offensive plays and defensive fronts.
The cost is $70 per player per week, and a t-shirt is included with going to one or both events. Players need to wear white, school-appropriate t-shirts; athletic shorts; and athletic footwear (running shoes will work, but if purchasing cleats buy black/white/gray/red and/or yellow- school colors). Players also need to bring water bottles.
To register and pay by credit card click here (credit cards only for football camp)
