Jordan Black Wins MS Cross Country Championship

Coach Trevino had this to say about the MS Cross Country year in review:
NPX XC was more than thrilled to have Jordan Black return to action for the Gladiator runners this season as he and a number of other boys became NPX’s first full middle school boys team for cross-country. And what a first team it was!
With Jordan leading the team, NPX XC boys took home the runner-up trophy at the championship meet, and, in dramatic as well as unexpected fashion, after making a meteoric charge in the last half-mile of the championship race, Jordan passed both the second and first place runners up to that point to become NPX XC first individual champion runner. Jordan’s years of running and hard work have paid off for himself and NPX. And boys cross-country is set to bring home the championship trophy next year. Congratulations, Jordan and XC boys!

If you are able in help out or have any questions, please contact Mr. Wright mwright@northphoenixprep.org

Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle, and should arrive to school in athletic attire as described on page 53 of the Family Handbook, excerpt included below:
Just as the Academy provides guidelines for dress code in the classroom, it is important to project the image of professionalism in our athletic attire as well.
All shirts worn for athletic practices and field day should be modest, loose fitting, in good repair (no holes, torn sleeves, etc), should be worn either tucked in or well over the waist of the pants/shorts if not tucked in. No midriffs may be shown. T-shirts are preferred—no tank tops, camisoles, or sports bras may be worn as outer-garments. Sleeveless shirts may be worn if modest.
Pants/shorts should be modest, in good repair (no holes, torn sleeves, etc.) Pants should be worn at the waist and should be no shorter than mid-thigh, and no-longer than just below the knee. No short-shorts or long baggy shorts may be worn. No boxers or undergarments may be visible.
Attire should be free of logos and messages, with the following exceptions: sports team logos (e.g., Diamondbacks, Notre Dame), and apparel brand names (e.g., Adidas, Abercrombie) are acceptable, provided they do not make inappropriate allusions. (as do some skateboarding/snowboarding brands). These guidelines also apply to sweatshirts and jackets that students may wear. Footwear should be athletic in nature: no sandals, open-toed, or platform shoes. Hats and sunscreen may be appropriate, if the students will be in the sun. Hat styles should follow the same guidelines as above.

Join Us for Curriculum Night

Curriculum Night will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 6:00 PM for Middle School and High School.

School Pictures: Tuesday September 8, 2015

Please note the date change for School Picture Day, it is September 8. Please be sure your child is dressed in correct uniform attire that day (well, and every day). Forms will be sent home with your child. If you need an additional copy, please ask Mary Brems in the front office.

Forgotten Lunch Boxes

Beginning Monday August 31st, any lunch boxes/bags that are in the “Lost” area will be thrown away. If your child has a missing container, please have them search the lost area in the corner of Building H before the end of day, August 31. Going forward we will discard forgotten lunch containers bi-weekly.

Lost Books and Bookbags

Students must keep their books with them or secure them in their lockers and all back packs must be kept inside lockers – not on the floor or on top of their locker. When NPX staff see books or book bags on the floor, ground, or on top of the lockers they will be removed and put in the school office – Room 601. The cost of books, book bags, and supplies are just too expensive to take a chance they will be taken. We take the items for their safety and safe return to students. A detention may occur to regular offenders.

Lanyards & Name Tags – Middle School Only

PLEASE note that lanyards and name tags are part of the uniform for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. It is a violation of school policy for any middle school student not wearing a complete uniform. You can find the NPX uniform policy on the first few pages of the student planner or in the Family Handbook.
If your student loses either the replacement cost is:
  • Name Badge only - $3
  • Lanyard only - $5
  • Both - $8
Students will not be reissued a replacement without payment.

Custody Papers

Please review your agreement and be sure we have the most up-to-date custody and court paperwork.

If there are custody agreements for a student, please make sure the front office has a copy of the agreement showing who has the power over the student’s education decisions. If you have legal custody of a student who may be a niece/nephew, grandchild, friend, etc., the front office and Great Hearts need legal court documents to show this custody. We cannot accept hand-written notes from parents that are notarized or any other non-legal documents.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please let Mrs. McHenry know and she can refer you to the person at Great Hearts who can help.

Immunizations - FORM

At age 11 children must have Meningococcal and Tdap immunizations. If your child has not had these shots and they have recently turned 11, please make arrangements to have this done immediately. If you choose a personal exemption, you must complete a new form each school year.

It is imperative to have all documentation into the school by October 9. If forms are not received by the school, your child(ren) will not be allowed to attend school after November 1.

Our nurse, Erin Krich, is currently going through student files verifying immunizations on each student. She will be contacting you over the next few weeks if your student is missing information.

New Emergency Medical FORM

It has come to our attention that the Emergency Medical Form you all filled out with your Enrollment Packet or Re-Enrollment Packet is not totally sufficient for giving proper care to your children. Please take a moment to complete the newly updated Emergency Medical form and bring it into the office. Either you or your child may drop it off in the School Office.

Hearing & Vision Screening

During the week of September 14, Mrs. Krich, our school nurse will be conducting hearing and vision screening on all 6th grade students, 9th grade students and any student regardless of grade who is new to NPX this year. She be screening students on the following schedule:
  • Monday, September 14, all 6th and 9th grade students.
  • Tuesday, September 15, new 7th, 8th, & 10th grade students.
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week she will seek out the students who were not available on Monday or Tuesday.
